When you are the one putting the wedding on that could be the scariest answer you could hear. Everyone knows that most weddings include dinner and dancing and alcohol goes hand in hand with that. However, to host a memorable wedding doesn’t necessarily mean you need to break the bank. While it is a very nice gesture, it is by no means required to have a hosted bar at your wedding. Many couples decide to compromise and host a portion of the alcohol, and then let the guests take care of the rest. This is a great way to show that you want to offer what you can, but you don’t need to start your marriage out in debt. An option to take would be to just have an open bar during your cocktail hour and then after that it turns to a cash bar. A lot of people will attend a wedding with the intent of only having a few drinks anyway, so they are very pleased to have the opportunity to do so when they arrive. If you’d prefer to have something last a little longer throughout the night, you could also opt to purchase keg beer. This is a very easy way to get a lot of drinks distributed to your guests for a decent amount of time, and it is often the most affordable route to take. Whether you decide to just purchase one keg or have keg beer available all night, it’s a great way to give back to your guests for a reasonable price. You could also offer a champagne toast to the room. Each table could be given a bottle or the banquet staff can do a champagne pour prior to your toasts. Passing out wine during the cocktail hour is another option that adds a touch of elegance to your reception. If you want certain family members, friends or people who are involved in your wedding to be able to drink what they want throughout the night, you could also pass out drink tickets. This is a great way to limit what you can afford to spend and show those who you are closest to that you want to cover them for the evening. It’s also a great way to say. “thanks” for everything they’ve done to help you with the wedding. If none of those options sound like something you are able to do, don’t feel bad at all. Having a cash bar is totally acceptable. Typically most will be fine if they have to buy their own throughout the night. But just remember if you do decide to host something, people will appreciate it no matter what it is because it’s your celebration!
