Wedding Dessert Ideas | Sioux Falls Convention Center

If you’re in the process of planning your wedding and you don’t really love the idea of having a traditional wedding cake, then don’t have one!  There is no rule that you must feed your guests cake at your wedding; in fact, a lot of people are choosing to come up with more creative options for dessert altogether.

Cupcakes are a good way to get a better variety of flavors, and think of all the cool ways you could display them! You could place them at each place setting or create a unique looking centerpiece at each table with cupcakes flowing around the middle for your guests to help themselves to.  Then if you had them as your centerpieces, think of all the money you’d save on not having to purchase additional items for your centerpieces that you’ll more than likely never use again!  You can have regular sized or mini ones, and the possibilities for flavors really are endless!

If cupcakes are a little too close to the “cake” you don’t want, then how about having a dessert station?  Mini bites of a variety of bars are a great way to please a large crowd—some people might not love chocolate but they might enjoy pumpkin or lemon or fruit flavored items.  When it comes to dessert stations, variety is key.  You want your guests to enjoy going up and choosing their selections, and it’s actual a great way to get your guests to mingle more among-st themselves as they chat about what ones they like or which ones they think people should make sure to try.

Another unique item would be to do pies.  Who doesn’t love a slice of warm apple pie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream??  Whether it’s banana cream, chocolate mousse, pumpkin or pecan, there is bound to be flavor that will satisfy everyone’s bellies!

When you have a wedding in the heat of the summer and top it off by having dance floor filled with people, what better way to cool off than by having an old fashioned ice cream parlor!  You could have cones and dishes and toppings galore for your guests to create their favorite frozen treat.  Take it one step further and add some warm brownies and you’ve got countless happy guests creating a delicious hot fudge brownie sundae topped with sprinkles, whipped cream, cherries, nuts, Oreo cookie crumbles—you name it!

So if you’re interested in giving your guests a unique option for dessert, give us a call at the Sioux Falls Convention Center today and we’ll help create the perfect sweet treat for your special day!

One Response to “Wedding Desserts, Traditional or not?”

  1. Laurice O says:

I am finding more and more couples open to having more desserts than the standard cake. And the ice cream parlor idea is great.
