Sioux Falls Wedding Planning | Planner Imagine this.  You are a newly engaged couple and you are starting the process of selecting a date for your wedding, and searching for a wedding reception venue.  This is an exciting time in your life, dreaming of all of the possibilities for your big day…..but it can also get overwhelming because you feel that you are not prepared nor do you know where to begin.  Putting together a basic plan of action at the start of the engagement is a step that most couples overlook.  Take the time to sit down as a couple and go over your overall budget and strategy, as this will set the tone for the entire planning experience leading up to the actual wedding day.  I would highly suggest getting a three ring binder to keep yourself organized (this way you can keep everything together….ceremony information, wedding reception information, transportation, DJ, photographer, florist, cake decorator, etc).  When it comes to selecting the wedding reception site (this is often selected at the same time as the ceremony, so it is one of the biggest and first commitments you will make) you want to be very thorough.  It is wise to start with some web research to narrow down your search, as some venues will not accommodate your event due to space capacities.  Next, you will want to inquire with the remaining venues about availability, as well as request some pricing information on the banquet space (ask for rental fees and specifically ask what is included / not included with that, as well as pricing information and options for the food and beverage).  It is also important to have an estimation of the number of guests you will be inviting because venues have seating capacities that your reception my not fit into.  At the Sioux Falls Convention Center we have four separate reception spaces holding from 100-400+ guests for typical wedding reception.  If you know any recently married couples who may have hosted their wedding reception in the area, visit with them about their experience.  This is perhaps the most under-used resource out there for brides and grooms.  These couples can shed light on their experience (what they liked and what they didn’t like), tips on things they found out along the way, possibilities on things they would maybe do differently if they could go back and change something, and they may even guide you to an amazing venue that you were originally not even considering.  Doesn’t put pressure on yourself to select a venue strictly based on a single attribute….and take your time with the decision.  Every couple is unique, and should always remember to go with a wedding reception venue that is “custom-suited” to their personal needs and wants.  Give me a call today and I would be thrilled to talk to you about the distinctive attributes of our venue!
