Wedding Planning and Food Ideas

Planning a wedding reception requires making infinite decisions!   All of these decisions will determine what type of event you end up putting together.  One of the biggest expenses of the entire wedding day is the wedding reception…..directly, the food and beverage at the reception.  It is important to think about factors like budget, and number of guests you want to invite…in addition to “style” of event.  Plated meals provide for a more formal environment, while buffets or stations create a very fun and social event for you and your guests.  If sticking to a budget is important, and you don’t want to limit yourself in regards to number of guests invited (because let’s face it, this is always a challenge to determine who to invite and who to not invite), I would advise you to go with a plated chicken entrée for the meal.  In my opinion, chicken can be a fantastic choice (especially if these are the circumstances you are working under) are the following:  chicken is an entrée that will “go over” as an acceptable choice to a vast majority of your guests, it is one of the most affordable options you can select, and it is an entrée that you could do many things with in regards to presentation and taste!  For this very reason, here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, our Executive Chef Yancy Erikson is always coming up with new creative and tasty chicken entrée options!  Whether you are into rich sauces (like cream based sauces), or something lighter like a chicken with a fresh sweet cucumber salsa, there are numerous options to consider.  Some of my favorite chicken entrees that we serve here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center for wedding receptions are:  Gouda Chicken – this lightly season grilled chicken breast is finished with a succulent Gouda cream sauce that is sure to be an unforgettable big hit!  Oriental Stuffed Chicken – this marinated chicken breast is stuffed with Pacific Rim Vegetables, finished in a savory plum sauce.  Chicken with Vodka Shrimp Sauce (this is my personal favorite, very different and tasty). Chicken Concombre – Grilled breast of chicken with our signature sweet cucumber salsa that adds a punch to your taste buds an to the color/texture appeal of the plate.  Our culinary team is also happy to customize a chicken entrée just for you, if our standard menus do not offer something to your liking.  If you have a personal favorite chicken dish, I would be happy to check on the price for the custom menu option.  Please give me a call today if you are looking for a venue that is flexible and affordable for your wedding reception!
