What do you do, when you are “not sure” about something….especially if it is a major decision? More than likely, you seek advice. You ask people for their opinion, or you do research online to obtain advice from reliable sources. Information is power! For that reason, couples planning their wedding reception should do the same….ask for advice. When a couple begins discussing their wedding reception, there are endless topics of conversation. Budget, entertainment, food and beverage, decorations, guests, décor…the list goes on, and on. The first bit of advice I would give any couple, is to remember to “give and take.” This is a day that you want to look back on and remember how much fun it was to plan, and then when the big day arrived, how much you enjoyed every single moment of it together. If one of you can’t live without a certain element (whether it be a certain type of food, or a certain DJ), be sure to make that a priority….because if you don’t, it will come back to haunt you later with hard feelings in one shape or form. The venues that you are considering for your reception should have knowledgeable catering/events staff to also serve as a resource. Be prepared to basically “interview” the staff at the venues you are touring, because ensuring they have suggestions and applicable advice for the type of wedding reception you are interested in hosting is of utmost importance to the success of your event. The venue staff obviously knows the facility and the capabilities for events better than anyone else, and they should be happy to assist you with your questions/concerns. Here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, our team is here to make your planning process as streamlined and stress-free as possible. From the initial site tour (with me), through the tasting, and working with your dedicated event manager who will assist with the detailing process and room layout, we will ensure we are providing you with valuable advice to make each and every decision. Logistics are always a top priority, because if some aspect of the event is overlooked and a decision is executed without considering it, things can end up with less than desirable results. Discuss (and always be honest about your opinions, don’t hold back because weddings are events that encompass emotions, so eventually it will come out and sooner than later), communicate effectively with each other and with the venue for your reception, and remember to confirm all details after arrangements are made. These are my personal tid-bits of advice for all couples……for a very successful wedding reception.
