Wedding Reception Venues in Sioux Falls

What food items come to mind when you think about a wedding reception?  One of the first items that most people mention would be a wedding cake.  The origin of the wedding cake can actually be traced back as far as the Roman Empire….before icing was even invented!  So, it is safe to say that a wedding cake has been a staple item, always made an appearance at the wedding reception.  However, through the years, weddings as well as wedding receptions have evolved significantly.  Wedding receptions in this day and age are sensational because they are all so unique!   This is one of the reasons I delight in working with weddings.  Couples are becoming more and more vocal about their “likes” as well as “dislikes”, which is great because in turn their wedding receptions are becoming more personalized.  Following traditional or typical wedding reception etiquette or standards is not a requirement…..even when it comes to incorporating a wedding cake.  Think about the desserts that you personally enjoy the most.  Whether it is a special dessert that your share as a couple (something you shared on your first date), or if you opt to go with a multitude of dessert options for your guests to experience and enjoy, the possibilities are virtually endless!  Talk to the food and beverage team at your wedding reception venue to get started with some ideas, if you do not have something that comes to mind.  I personally encourage a dessert buffet because it serves multiple purposes.  First it is aesthetically pleasing and can enhance your décor with a little extra punch!  Second, it is a fun way to encourage socialization among your guests.  Some ideas that I think are simply marvelous are:  a selection of mini canapés, dessert shooters (can be non-alcoholic or alcoholic), individual mini cakes or cupcakes, cake-pops displayed as a part of the table centerpiece, a chef attended bananas foster station, an ice cream sundae station with all of the toppings like in an ice cream parlor, an assortment of home-made cakes and pies drizzled in fresh fruit, root-beer float station, ice cream cookie sandwiches, S’mores, and unique flavors of home-made cheesecakes.  You could even tie the dessert into your heritage or a family tradition / favorite (example:  baklava, kuchen, or your Mom’s famous brownies).  Another option that we offered for a few wedding receptions (and it went over extremely well) was a coffee bar.  A vast majority of the population is growing to become what they feel are “coffee connoisseurs”.  The coffee bar or station could feature a variety of flavored coffee, and lovely accompaniments to assist your guest in making their coffee a little “fancy” as I like to say!  Chocolate shavings, flavored syrups, whipped cream and candy-rock stirrers are a recipe for fun.  Your guests will not only have a lovely time making their drink, they will also revel in sipping on their custom-made masterpiece!   Here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, we are always putting together new concepts for modern and edgy dessert ideas….especially for wedding receptions!  Please give me a call today, and I would be happy to assist you in putting together a concept that would fall in line with your “likes”!
