Tasty beverages are important for any type of party or event, and that definitely includes wedding receptions!   The majority of wedding receptions include some sort of alcoholic beverage service.  A cocktail hour prior to dinner is very common, and some people will even provide their guests with appetizers during this time.  This can allow your guests a little time to mix and mingle prior to the start of the dinner.   The pre-reception, social hour or cocktail hour (whatever you would like to call it) can take place outside of the actual banquet room or inside of the room.  It is basically left to the preference of the bride and groom, because both scenarios will work.  If you prefer to have it setup outside of the actual banquet room, it is always important to ask the venue if other events are taking place on the same evening as your event because depending on the setup, it could be not conducive to a private cocktail reception.  I like to use the tallboys (tall cocktail tables) in the setup, as this allows for your guests to still socialize and have a place to set their drink down.  It is also important to think about your guests who are non-drinkers, as you will want them to feel comfortable and taken care of as well.  Offering soft drinks, iced tea, lemonade, punch, water, and coffee are all options.   Punch is almost always a staple “non-alcoholic” beverage choice at wedding receptions.   Here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, we provide all of our wedding receptions with complimentary punch and a punch fountain for the evening…which is a great value because most venues charge for punch by the gallon consumed.   Water, iced tea, and coffee are also complimentary during the dinner.  Some of our wedding receptions like to continue to offer coffee throughout the evening, and we are happy to put together a coffee station to accommodate this request.   This will allow your guests to grab a coffee at anytime throughout the event as they would like.  If you have a large number of coffee drinkers, we can even enhance the coffee station and provide choices of hot teas and hot chocolate, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, etc. for an upgraded drink station.  Specialty drinks like flavored martinis or signature sangria are also a fun option to consider….the possibilities are endless!
