Sweet Treats

09/20/2010

The times are always changing it seems, and if you are a recently engaged couple and have started looking at details for your wedding reception…you might be surprised at some of the things you will find.   Traditional items or ways of doing things at wedding receptions still exist, however a massive amount of brides/grooms are pushing the envelope.   For years, a person could attend a wedding reception and literally count on having a piece of wedding cake before the evening was over.   Again, times have and will continue to change.   Working with a wedding reception venue that embraces change and allows creativity during the planning process is more attractive or desirable than ever.  I truly believe it is all about portraying what the couple desires for their event, and that requires patience and flexibility on everyone’s part….especially the reception venue.   Every single detail is important to the newly married couple, because this is a day that they will think about for the rest of their lives.  The food is always a large component of the event, but what about the dessert?   Do you have to include a traditional wedding cake?  The answer is simple, no.   Traditional wedding cakes are definitely still an option that many people opt to include….however they are not the only sweet treat that you will find at wedding receptions.  Everything from cupcakes to cheesecake, mousse shooters, parfaits and chocolate fountains….anything goes.   Here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, we have had numerous wedding receptions go with beautiful dessert displays that our talented chef’s prepare (cheesecakes, pies, cakes, etc.) so their guests can select on an individual basis, what they would like for dessert.  Dessert displays enhance the actual room décor, serving as an eye catching addition to the room setup.  If you are providing a traditional wedding cake (bringing it into the venue) be sure to ask if there is a cake cutting fee.   Some facilities charge to cut and serve the wedding cake, if it was not purchased from in-house catering.   We do not charge a cake cutting fee here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, if you would like to bring in a traditional wedding cake.  Dessert options are limitless, and it is exciting to provide your guests a choice as well as throw in a little bit of an unexpected element to the evening!
