Selecting a venue for your wedding reception can be a stressful task…..if you are unsure of what you are looking for, or what questions you should be asking.  Some key factors that you should consider before you begin your search are:  budget, guest list, location, and style.  The reception is one of the largest elements of the entire day, so you want to be sure to select a venue that will be comfortable for you and your guests, and portray the desired ambiance or style.  Sometimes it is hard for brides/grooms to envision what the space could look like for a reception, so I always encourage them to come back to see an actual wedding reception setup.  At the Sioux Falls Convention Center our space is so versatile; it can transform to accommodate very large weddings as well as smaller more intimate groups.  Another option would be to ask the venue for diagrams and pictures from past wedding receptions, to give you a visual of how the space can look.  Check out our photo galleries of the beautiful receptions we have hosted at the Sioux Falls Convention Center on our Facebook Page. Venues can have different requirements or regulations that must be followed, so it is important to ask questions about the elements that are most important to you.  Examples of questions you should always ask are:

  1. What items are not allowed (if any) for decorations/centerpieces?
  2. What time can we have access to the room and what time will we have the room until?
  3. What is the room rental cost?
  4. Is there a required food and beverage minimum?
  5. Do you have any equipment/decorations in-house that we are able to utilize?
  6. Who will be in charge of the event/who do I approach if there is a problem night of event?

I often hear people talk about “sticker shock” after their reception; because venues will charge for items that the client (brides/grooms) did not realize was an expense to them.   In order to alleviate this from happening, we package everything up for all of our wedding receptions.  This makes it easy for our couples to quickly figure out what they would be spending if they hosted their event at our facility.  The room rental cost already includes all of the standard equipment they are definitely going to need, and then they have a food and beverage minimum requirement that must be reached.  It is my job to make the venue selection process, and their entire experience stress free and fun….so this is a simple way to do just that!

Can anyone kindly tell me why a platinum ring so much more expensive than gold rings?

My fiance wants a platinum ring, (which obviously she’ll get), but aren’t gold rings considered more traditional for engagements and wedding rings?
